Innovation in Oxo Alcohols Catalysts

Speaker: Sarah Boisvert, Senior Analyst at Nexant

Bio: Our March speaker is Sarah Boisvert, a Senior Analyst at Nexant, a globally recognized software, consulting and services leader that provides solutions to utilities, energy enterprises, chemical companies and government worldwide.

Sarah has a background in emerging markets and technologies, and has been a key contributor to a number of technical due diligence engagements, economic feasibility studies, and market assessments relating to novel processes. Her experience includes a market due diligence on molecular sieves in which she researched traditional and emerging applications, functional demand drivers, and barriers to entry.

Sarah’s work has also included several technical and market due diligences for novel processes in the biorenewables sector, including:
• Evaluating several biomass fractionation technologies through the lens of overall risk to commercial success; specifically assessing current scale and scale-up design plans, risk mitigation methodology, basic technical feasibility, HSE concerns, developer team strength, IP protection strategies, etc.
• Screening various novel technologies and evaluating their potential for success based on criteria developed by a Nexant/Client combined team
• Performing a technical due diligence regarding the process design for a proposed bioplastics technology, which included fermentation, cellular lysis, and separation/purification processes
• Acting as a consultant as part of Nexant’s role as independent feedstock and market consultant for a proposed cellulosic ethanol facility. Analyzed feedstock supply strategies and examined anticipated agricultural yields, harvest and transportation costs, contract durability, partnership desirability, and risk mitigation tactics

Sarah also has authored or coauthored several of Nexant’s technology driven Biorenewable Insights reports as well as two Special Reports, one pertaining to on-purpose propylene cost competitiveness and the other to the industry movement towards green solvents. In addition, she is part of an independent engineer team for a greenfield methanol plant currently under construction. Her role includes attending quarterly progress updates, assessing monthly status reports, and analyzing risks to timeline, budget, and worker safety.

Sarah received a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College.
