Bio: The November Speaker, John Sasso, is a Project Manager with RRT SIGMA Engineering/ Sigma Energy Solutions (Melville, NY). He is a Power Industry Manager with a strong track record in managing and optimizing power generation assets, and utility operations. John is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Demand Side Manager (CDSM) by the Assn. of Energy Engineers since 2008. He is skilled in performing financial and technical analyses, budgeting, negotiating contracts, and developing high performance teams, and widely recognized for increasing profitability and reliability with innovative cost effective solutions. Achievements include productivity increases plus reliability and efficiency improvements in the power industry.

John joined RRT Sigma in 2007, and has led numerous projects locally and internationally in the power field, including:
• Rockville Centre Microgrid Project Manager: NYSERDA NY Prize Stage 1 Microgrid feasibility evaluation for the Village of Rockville Center. Evaluated technologies and systems for utilization as part of the proposed Microgrid including distributed generation (engines, organic rankine cyles, solar), battery storage, capacitors, and demand side management programs.

• NYISO Market Mitigation: Evaluated project economics for various power generation facilities for NYISO market mitigation dept. including gas, coal, waste and nuclear powered generation facilities.

• River Bay Cooperative: Prepared operation and maintenance RFP and Energy Services RFP for this 20 MW cogeneration facility. Ongoing technical consultant for power plant O&M matters.

• Caithness Long Island Energy Center: Annual performance assessment of the duct burner heat rate realized at this 250 MW combined cycle plant located in Yaphank, NY.

• Indonesia Power: Evaluate gas turbine performance improvement alternatives for Indonesia Power.

Prior to RRT Sigma, John was the Assistant Director of Utilities for Stony Brook University, overseeing high voltage campus electric distribution and metering systems, central cooling/heating plants, natural gas and potable water metering and distribution. He was a Startup Manager at Central Connecticut State University, managing the startup of equipment and systems for the commercialization of a new $33 million energy center which include four boilers, two chillers and a 6 MW cogen plant. He also was the General/Plant Manager for two cogeneration plants on Long Island (TBG Cogen/Bethpage and Stony Brook Cogen) totaling 100 MWs, as well as Manager of Engineering for Gas Energy Inc.

John was awarded a Masters of Business Administration (in Finance) degree from Long Island University (Brookville, NY) and completed his undergraduate work - Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) - at the Cooper Union School of Engineering (New York, NY).
