As Chief Underwriting Officer for XL Catlin’s Americas region, Bob Shine assures consistent underwriting practice and standards to achieve its high-level of underwriting excellence across all XL Catlin’s business lines.
XL Catlin’s Americas Region includes four Product Divisions -- Casualty, Property, Professional and Specialty – which provide more than 30 insurance products and generate approximately $5 billion in annual premium for the Americas Region.
In addition to his underwriting oversight responsibilities, Mr. Shine identifies new business opportunities, leads and coordinates unique and complex transactions, and helps drive timely new product development for brokers and customers. He joined XL Catlin in June 2010 as Chief Casualty Underwriting Officer before his promotion to his current position in November 2010.
Prior to his tenure at XL Catlin, he headed the Zurich North America Casualty Group, Specialties Business Unit, managing the complete casualty business, including the three units of Excess Casualty, Railroad, and Wholesale lines. Throughout his career Mr. Shine has held various underwriting and management roles including positions with AIG’s American Home Assurance Company and the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.
