Session 3 - Reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions - The Path Forward in the Near Term to Meet Global GHG Emission Reduction Goals...and Enhance U.S. Energy Security Abstract

Edward L. Helminski, President and Publisher of ExchangeMonitor Publications & Forums, Inc., is a physicist who has been actively engaged in complex technical issues in the public arena for more than 30 years. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in physics from the University of Michigan.

After a brief tenure in academia, he directed science and technology and energy and natural resource programs for the nation’s governors and state legislators. As a direct result of his work on national energy issues with the National Governors Association, including the convening of the first ever White House Energy conference in 1976, he was appointed the Deputy Director of the White House Management Task Force on Energy Shortages and a Special Assistant to the President.

In 1981 he founded Exchange/Monitor Publications, Inc. which now publishes four nationally acclaimed technical professional newsletters: the Weapons Complex Monitor [Waste Management & Cleanup], the Nuclear Weapons & Materials Monitor, the GHG Reduction Technologies Monitor & the RadWaste Monitor, and is the sponsor and organizer of four annual international conferences: The Weapons Complex Cleanup Decisionmakers Forum; the Nuclear Deterrence Summit; The RadWaste Summit and the CCUS/CCS Conference.

The CCUS/CCS Conference, now in its twelfth year, is convened in partnership with the Dept of Energy's Fossil Energy Office and the National Energy Technology Laboratory. This event has become the premier gathering of decision makers and technical experts across the full CCS/CCUS spectrum. Last year’s event attracted more than 550 participants, from about 300 companies representing over two dozen countries.
